I attended a function last evening where, to my surprise, a photo of me, alongside the book cover for IN POLYESTER PAJAMAS, was displayed several times on a large screen to almost 200 people.
It was exciting to see, such an awesome experience, but it was also a bit scary in a strange sort of way. I had butterflies in my stomach whenever I looked at the display.
Can this really be happening?
The whole thought of being a published author—my lifelong dream—seems so surreal to me. I can’t explain it fully. It’s like being in a dream, a great one, and I’m so afraid that I’m going to wake up and find out that it has all been just that—a dream.
I can’t even imagine how it’s going to feel to finally have that published book in my hand. What will be my reaction when I see it displayed in a bookstore for the first time? Or view it on Amazon with reviews from readers? What will having author signings and interviews be like? So many new and exciting experiences are yet to come!
When I went home after the function, I checked for any new unread emails on my computer. That’s when I discovered that the edit suggestions & comments for IN POLYESTER PAJAMAS had arrived from my editor. These were expected and, although I didn’t have the time to work on them right away, I took a quick glance.
There were over 80 editorial notations made throughout the manuscript. My first reaction was sudden fear (can I really do all this?) but as I looked even closer at each one of them, I saw that some were comments expressing where the story was captivating, entertaining and written well. Others suggested slight changes. And there were also several suggestions for rewrites to make the story even stronger. Overall, and to my relief, nothing is too major to handle, and these edits are going to make what I already know is a good read become an even greater one.
IN POLYESTER PAJAMAS is right on schedule and will be released soon. I know that you’re going to love it!
