Beginning at the stroke of midnight tonight, thousands of writers, young and old, will begin the challenge of creating 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November. Divide 50,000 by 30 days and that comes to 1,667 words per day which equals about 5 ½ double-spaced, typewritten pages. I can tell you, firsthand, it’s not easy to do.
But it is a lot of fun and it gets the creative juices flowing. I took the challenge last year and was able to meet it. I was also able to complete over half of my novel Woolen Bikinis, the sequel to in Polyester Pajamas. Now, one year later, Woolen Bikinis is in the hands of my publisher and slated to be released next June.
This year, I’m taking the NaNoWriMo challenge again and will be writing my first Christmas novel, something I’ve always wanted to do.
